Beware the Sugar Freak!

If you’re anything like me, you get super excited for Halloween.

To be honest, I’m not so much a go-all-out skeleton costume, fake blood trick or treat-er. I’m more of a put on a scary movie, light up the jack-o-lantern Halloween-er.

Either way, I’m sure you can understand the temptation of binging on all those sweet treats. While I don’t plan on being the Oogie Boogie man, and scaring away all your Halloween indulgences, I am going to recommend that you find a few alternatives to all of the junk food that will be haunting your dreams during this time of year.

Here are few of my favorite snack alternatives to turn to incase your sweet tooth takes over at the site of a full moon.

1.     Apple and peanut butter

My favorite go-to snack is always fruit. Its sweet, but it’s a natural sugar.

2.     Greek Yogurt with stevia

Don’t go over board with the stevia- too much of anything can be bad. Here we at least have a protein packed snack that will definitely fill you up.

3.     Cinnamon Spiced Pumpkin Seeds

This is the perfect seasonal snack that I made this week. The seeds are a great source of magnesium and zinc.

4.    Sugar Free Jell-O or Jell-O Pudding

Now you want to be careful that you aren’t indulging with this snack too much. Usually sugar free means that there is a substitute sugar ingredient mixed in, like aspartame. Beware! But for the most part sugar free Jell-O will hit the spot and fulfill your craving.

5.    Treat Yo’self

I didn’t want to be a total buzz kill. I always recommend that people indulge in their favorite cheat meal at least once a week. We’re all human and we shouldn’t deprive ourselves of something we really enjoy! So if you plan on diving into a bowl of Pumpkin Spice M&M’s, stick to the serving size. Measure out a small amount before you end up eating the entire family size bag. Grab a Kit-Kat or two, but make sure you feel like you’ve earned it. Reward yourself after your workout!
